The Challenge

Outgrowing a manual tracking system as a commercial-stage pharmaceutical company scaled

SIGA Technologies, Inc. is a New York-based commercial-stage pharmaceutical company focused on global health security. Its lead product, TPOXX® (tecovirimat), was the first FDA-approved antiviral treatment for smallpox and is supplied to the U.S. Strategic National Stockpile and to 30+ countries worldwide for use following a natural, accidental, or intentional smallpox outbreak.

Candace Lovejoy, SIGA’s Director of Contracts and Project Management, joined the company 17 years ago and inherited the contracting function. At the time, there was no formal tracking system. Signed contracts lived in a central folder system as PDFs, with multiple Excel spreadsheets tracking the agreements SIGA managed with external parties.

As SIGA grew, contract volume increased and more departments needed access to contract information. The folder-and-spreadsheet structure was not easy for people outside the contracting function to navigate. When someone needed information about an agreement, the request usually went through Lovejoy. That was not efficient or sustainable.
